When we go to war on a problem or situation there are always casualties. The first one is usually truth. No real situations have very come from war. They come from looking at creative solutions and working with, not against the problem.
Having a strong interest in solutions to depression, anxiety and stress my radar is finely tuned when someone begins to talk on the subject. It is surprising how many people are still at war with their symptoms, in a constant struggle for domination that few ever win. The reason is simple enough, they are still fighting the imagined enemy. So often i hear people speak about overcoming, defeating, beating depression for example. They are delusional, they still have depression front and centre in their reality. It still owns them and they are still sucked into victim consciousness.
We never overcome or truly deal with any issue, we do become better at managing it when the symptoms arise. I shudder every time i hear someone proudly announce I am over that ……. The radar is turned off, the safety defences have all been mothballed and one day, quietly and unnoticed the old menace is back, wiser and smarter than last time and we slide back into victim alley.
True healing, real health comes from staying alert and aware when our buttons are being pushed and having a back up plan to address the issue.
We don’t improve our health by going to war, we improve the quality of our lives by making peace and turning enemies into allies.
25 years of working with clients has shown this to be true.
