Depression is at epidemic levels in the western world. Is it being misdiagnosed and mistreated? Drugs may assist the problem, yet they do not cure it. Stop the medication and the problem returns.
Many people use their depression/anxiety as a coping mechanism It is the crutch that keeps them going. The option of taking personal responsibility is a bridge to far. Judging these people is unfair, no one knows what another person is going through. In many cases these people are very responsible members of society, looking after their families, their businesses in positions of authority. Their responsibilities are focussed on others. not themselves. How many mothers give all to their families and have nothing left for themselves?
How many are living other peoples expectations, instead of focussing on what they want?
Taking drugs is the easy option, not one can be faulted for doing their best to cope. Shifting from outward focussed responsibility to self responsibility will run us all into the brick wall of society’s limiting beliefs. It is amazing how much pressure we endure to fit in. This alone can lead many to depression and anxiety, or as far as suicide.
Is depression any more than bad decision making? Decisions about what we eat, what we drink, the thoughts we allow. Society has strong rules about how we live and behave. To exist, most people try and bend themselves to the mould. A mould that is fundamentally, insane.
Is this our first mistake? Those who break the rules, either get destroyed by the system or like Ghandi, Mandela, Mother Theresa, change the system.
Is depression a symptom of surrendering the beauty of who we are to the ugliness of normality? Many do not realise normality is a curable disease. Insane people conform and become followers, sane people become leaders of new paradigms of the global awareness and growth.
So are we really suffering from a mental illness or simply choosing what does not suit us? Our education system standardises our children, with parents consent. Children are encouraged conform instead of use critical thinking, evaluate and be creative. The ones that do end up with a label and put on drugs or expelled.
When one steps out of the normal world and begins to allow themselves to think clearly, many other options present themselves.
Such as:
diet – gluten intolerance, food additives, allergies
exercise
rehydrating
creative expression
magnesium
goal setting
positive affirmations
integrated movement
Changing our thoughts and being more in touch with our true feelings is a master key to releasing the effects of depression and anxiety. Choosing to feel good Now, instead of wandering aimlessly down the back roads of negativity.
This may be hard to take in, Depression and Anxiety are choices. There are no victims, it is a myth that appears real. Once we all begin to take back our personal responsibility, our lives change. Once we decide that we not longer wish to dwell in the shadow of negativity, we begin to experience a better quality of life. When we focus on our heart’s desire and begin to move in that direction depression and anxiety become relics of the past.
Depression may be described focussing on the negative past and anxiety, focussing on a negative future. The secret, stay focussed on right now!
